What Do Funerals Cost?
It's a bit like the proverbial... "how long is a piece of string"?
The short answers are :
from $2,300 for a Direct Cremation
from $7,500 for a Cremation and Full Funeral Service
from $6,800 for a Burial and Full Funeral Service
Additions such as videography and live streaming the service may be included (depending on the venue) but if not, these services add about $1,500.
Of course, some funeral companies charge considerably more than what we've listed here.
So, you should ask yourself. "Does paying more automatically mean it will be better?".
Funeral 'packages' with big price tags can disguise hefty profits and may result in families feeling pressured by rather than empowered by the very people that should be helping them at such a difficult time.
We always allow families to manage as much or as little of the service as they would like to because we have found that the more involvement they have (for instance, bringing the flowers, creating the slideshow, carrying the coffin), the more they feel complete.
As well as making the funeral so much more meaningful we've found that family involvement also helps reduce the overall cost by many hundreds - if not thousands - of dollars.
It's a win-win.
The key to deciding what elements are essential and which are optional lies in the information provided by the funeral director.
This information should be offered in clear, plain language, accompanied by full cost disclosure at the very first enquiry.
Open and clear language empowers a grieving family to quickly establish the approximate cost before they engage the funeral director.
